Why websites need several icon sizes
A favicon can appear in a tiny browser tab, a bookmark bar, a mobile home screen, or an app-style launcher. These contexts have different pixel-size needs and may apply their own cropping or rounding. A single low-resolution source often looks blurred when enlarged to a larger tile.
A useful starting set
Common PNG icon sizes include 16 × 16, 32 × 32, 48 × 48, 180 × 180, 192 × 192 and 512 × 512 pixels. The CompIMG Favicon Generator exports a ZIP containing these size variants. This is a PNG icon pack, not a handcrafted multi-resolution .ico binary, so some setups may additionally need an ICO converter.
Design for small dimensions
Use a square master image with a simple silhouette, clear shape and generous contrast. Avoid thin details or long text: what looks good at 512 pixels may be impossible to recognize at 16 pixels. Test the resulting 16-pixel icon against light and dark browser backgrounds.
Adding icons to your site
Website themes commonly reference favicon icons through HTML link elements and a web app manifest. WordPress also offers a site icon setting under its site identity controls in many configurations. Which sizes are actually referenced depends on your theme and browser; confirm the final markup after uploading assets.
Transparency and margins
PNG can preserve transparent areas around the icon. If your logo touches the outer edge, add a little spacing before producing the icon set so rounding or device masks do not cut off essential parts. Keep the high-resolution square source for updates and refinements.
